至于家具业务,特别是椅子业务,聚碳酸酯的使用直到现在还仅限于非常高端的设计产品,结合聚碳酸酯的闪亮表面和创新设计的可能性,因为注塑技术赋予了自由的形式。到目前为止,这些产品的平均价格已经让大部分的普通消费者望而却步,只让创新的精英客户有机会购买。
通过对聚碳酸酯采用正确的化学配方,并进行表面处理,可以大大降低刮伤的风险。同时,聚碳酸酯的产品在结构上更强大,在承受重量压力的态度上,以及在抗冲击方面表现显著。这是因为有机玻璃(甲基丙烯酸酯),特别是在经过热锻和钻孔后,在加载时,特别是在冲击力下,表现得很脆,有时甚至是不可预测的。此外,聚碳酸酯的透明度比有机玻璃(甲基丙烯酸酯)高,因为有机玻璃(甲基丙烯酸酯)不像硅玻璃那样透明,特别是在水晶透明的版本中,显示出背景的黄色成分,无法去除。
UPON 椅子引入了创新的聚丙烯衍生的化合物(IGAP在这些材料上注册了商标),这将使得产品具备闪亮和高光泽表面,从视觉效果的角度来看,完美地模仿了聚碳酸酯的表面。我们正在一步步地将这种技术应用于非常轻的、结构更复杂的椅子,包括在不久的将来,也会有带金属镀铬腿的椅子。这也将是市场的一个突破,因为高光泽度的表面在目前和中期内都是非常时尚的,特别是对年轻的消费者。

Polycarbonate has been finding its most relevant utilization until recent years, in the consumer electronics business (CDs and DVDs, in particu-lar, thanks to its electrical properties), as well as in many hi-tech solutions for the building sector, every time high-quality transparency is nee-ded, together with lightness, combined to an extreme strength of the material; this thanks, on the one side, to its distinctive optical properties (it is clearer than the most part of silica glasses), and, on the other side, to its being much lighter than glass, but at the same time very strong (very high resistance to hits and remarkable attitude at bearing static and dynamic weight pressures, both in the vertical and horizontal direction). n both cases, also the possibility to work on polycarbonate with the technology of gas-injection mouldings has been highly appreciated, if compared to the cheaper and more traditional substitute for glass, that is the acrylic glass (technically speaking methyl methacrylate, or also, commercially speaking, acrylic or plexiglass) which can be only thermoformed.
As for the furniture business, and in particular the chair business, the utilization of polycarbonate has been limited until present time to the very hi-end design products, combining the sparkling surface of polycarbonate with the possibility of innovating design, because of freedom of forms granted by the technology of injection mouldings. The average price of these products has been so far discriminating the most part of common consumers, restricting the possibility to buy only to an elite of innovative customers.
